Beaten by a 12 Year old

So I have Euan set up on Zwift on my bike.  The idea is that he learns to ride properly.

I had a ride this evening and just went far too hard and drained all energy.   I know how to pace and I am supposed to be practicing for this event but it was too tempting not to.

So Euan decides to go for my best time on The 6 Train in New York and promptly knocks 90 seconds off of it!   That is going down tomorrow!!

Last day of the year and my stats are as follows :-

Activities117
Distance1,129.4 mi
Elev Gain64,616 ft
Time116h 17m

Equivalent of twice up Everest!  Can't complain at that!

Very Wet Day and my new indoor trainer

Friday morning, that means my weekly cycle to fat club (my pet name for Slimming World).  Do this every Friday.  Normally it is an 8 mile spin in the countryside and 2 miles home for a total of 10 miles.  Got up and the rain was horrific, the garden was flooded for the first time since we moved here.  No way I am going on those back roads as it would be mainly underwater.  So for the first time I took the short route.

So did the weigh in, lost 2lbs so I am now 3 stone 6 lbs lighter, last 6 weeks have been difficult and it is good to be back on track with successive losses.

Cycle home was interesting.  There was a huge puddle at the bottom of the road that I had to go through.  No way around.   Got soaked going so had the idea to maybe unclip and put my feet up in the air.  Made no difference, Water was just too high.  I reckon it came up to the bottle cage.

My cassette arrived for my Zwift Kickr Core.  Set it up last night.  Gear's are not quite meshed properly and there was some skipping but on the whole worked really well. Got Euan set up and using cleats on my bike on the trainer.  Has no issues getting out but a few problems getting in.  Will come with practice!

First ride was on Watopia.  Actually managed to have a mechanical as I threw my chain when moving into the big ring, need to make a wee adjustment there methinks.

Euan was amazed at my power numbers.  |I was not going full gas but could hit 700W

Euan now took a turn and did the same course.  He said it was really hard for him as it was a different riding position (I have an endurance bike so the position is different)  and he hated it,  So after he got round, I did one of the New York courses, instead of going for power the whole way around, I practiced endurance for the 24 hour challenge I have coming up.

I really have a difficult decision to make now.  Do I do the route I was planning for the 24 hour challenge or spend the time in Zwift.  Going to have to think about this one!

One Very Wet Ride Home

Going to blog my 2023 journey.  Currently lost 45 of the 100 pounds that I am looking to lose (maybe more) and have rediscovered my love of cycling.

One of the most common routes I take is the cycle into work, whilst going in is fun and generally downhill, coming back hurts with a 6 mile "10 Climbs from Hell) to face in the latter part of the ride.  Trying to get up that and still be breathing at the end is a challenge

Ride in was great.  Due to weather I did not cycle in the last 4 days and was pining to be back on the bike.  My legs did not disappoint!

The ride home tonight was great fun.  It had been raining all day and I did not have my overshoes with me.  Went through a puddle that went over my cycling shoes!

Start of 2023 looks to be interesting.   I have signed up for a 24 hour challenge in January.   Tomorrow my Zwift Kickr Core gets delivered so going to be exploring the wonderful world of indoor racing while I am waiting for the weather to clear

About time I brought this up to date

Been a while since I last wrote something. Cycling has been good.  Really got back into it with a vengeance.  Yesterday, decided on a whim ...
